Mary qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and worked in both their Dublin and New York Offices. Mary trained as an internal auditor in the US, conducting internal audits internationally for Occidental Petroleum Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. On returning to Ireland, Mary operated as Head of Internal Audit for two multinational companies, listed on the Stock Exchange, Boole & Babbage Inc. (now BMC Software) and Elan Corporation Plc.

Currently, Mary operates as an independent consultant. Amongst others, her clients base has included An Post, Bank of Ireland Plc. and the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
Mary has almost ten years experience reporting to Audit Committees in Ireland and now is a member of the Audit Committee of the Institute of Chartertered Accountants in Ireland and Chair of the Institute's Special Interest Group for Internal Auditors and Risk Managers.
